Found 5 packages of V-Day napkins, 5 packages of V-Day paper plates, Thank You Cards, V-Day cards (in package) and about 100 so loose V-Day cards, 3 packages of Christmas Cards (new in box) and 3 new bottles of deodorant.

  1. Including the photos brings it home even more how much usable stuff is being wasted.
A community near me is having a “free yard sale” later this month–bring what you don’t need and take what you want. A great recycling idea, cut out the garbageman. I wish the companies that throw things out would see the sense in that and donate the usable food and other products directly to places like the ones you find that need it, but until they do, I’m glad you’re on the job.
I don’t find too much around here, but I don’t go regularly, either. I found a big bag of plastic hangers once that helped a theatre I know get some costumes organized, and some bubble wrap I used to insulate some windows against the winter cold (I read you could just spray water on a window and put up the bubble wrap–so long as it’s a window you don’t really need to see out of, it works well to insulate.)
Always like to read your blog!

  2. Julie thank you for your kind words. Always a pleasure to hear others read this blog. I cannot allow any of this stuff to hit the trash bin. I’m continuing to talk to management to convince them to give this stuff to people like me so I can pass it out for free.

They continue to use the liability excuse. The Good Samaritan law precludes that. They’ve thrown this stuff away for so long that’s all they know how to do. Many store employees and managers have told me they’d love to give it away. I’m constantly having a conversation with them to change things.
