You remember that line from an Seinfeld episode where Elaine had the bizarro friends who resembled Jerry and the rest of the gang? She was reminding Jerry that her new friends actually read books.
Recovered a box of paperback books (new) from behind a retail store. They were going to throw these out! Brand new books! They tear off the covers so they can’t be resold or taken back to the store. That I can understand but to throw in the trash and let them rot in the landfill? I don’t think so.
So off to give out the books I went. I gave them to a friend of mine who works with the public. Several of her customers are nurses who work in local hospitals and nursing homes. They will be taking these books home. Most of them were either mystery books or romance novels, some of them new books just hot off the press.
For the life of me I cannot figure out WHY companies think it’s more important for these things to sit and rot in a landfill than to donate them to those who could use them. If they don’t want to go to the trouble of donating them, leave them in a box outside the dumpster so anyone can come by and pick them up!
