Barney Five

Filed under: Uncategorized — urbandumpsterdiver @ 12:24 pm

Had an encounter last night with the security guard. God he was like a Barney Five. Those of you who don’t remember Mayberry RFD Barney Five was a cop who thought he was the shit but he wasn’t.

This rent a cop stopped me last night and told me I couldn’t go into the dumpsters. I said yes I can, Hall vs. Greenwood mandates that all trash in the trash is now abandoned property and is now public domain. I guess he had to justify his job.

I said do you bother the Mexicans going through the trash for boxes to sell at recycling centers? He didn’t answer me. Did he bother me because I’m a white woman? Who knows? All I know is that I don’t need the hassle. He told me what hours he is there and that’s when I’ll show up.

Now if I were some gang banger type would he have stopped me? Who knows? All I know is that I’ve lost a lot respect for cops, security guards and law enforcement. They pick on the poor and oppressed. Those who can’t afford an OJ lawyer. Assholes.

  1. I think it’s wonderful that you’re getting food out to hungry people, there is plenty to go around if it isn’t wasted! Dumpster diving is SO fun too! I’ll have a bike in a couple of weeks and plan on some going on some forays here in Denver then. I heard about this free volunteer based restaurant the other day that’s not far from here called So All May Eat (S.A.M.E.), I plan to go there and offer some help soon.

    Cool blog, thanks for sharing!

  2. You are most welcome Quais. One would think with all the people out of work grocery stores will donate leftover stuff.

I’m finding that a lot of the stuff thrown away is from the vendors, i.e., potato chips, bread, etc. A lot of times the products aren’t expired but to make room on the shelf for new products the ones on the shelf are thrown out. It’s a darn shame.

Tonight found some slashed cereal and energy bars. Ridiculous. All of that stuff was still good.
