Winter Solstice

Filed under: Uncategorized — urbandumpsterdiver @ 8:49 pm

Well ladies and gentleman, we’re all still alive, no destruction of the earth. It’s just plain cold here where I am. The wind certainly has a bite.

Found an entire box tonight of chips. The bulk of the big bags are going to the local church/food bank. The smaller chips are going along with us on our road trip to our house near the coastline.

We found about 6 pairs of new sunglasses (Disneyland and Barbie brand) for the little ones.

The grape and orange soda will go to the younger ones. We found a 12 pack of the non-name brand a few nights ago.

On another note. Tonight on the way back from the store this young kid had a neon green sign that said Yard sale in big letters. So we stopped. He was about 9-10 years old. Cutest darn kid you’d ever see. His little hair was so blond it was white. He had some VHS tapes, a game set, a boombox and a small color TV for sale. The only thing we really needed was a TV. He wanted $5 for the TV. He probably wanted to sell it as he’d gotten a new one for Xmas.

My husband looked at him askance and said in a teasingly way, does this thing work? Oh yes sir, in fact I’ll let you have it for $4. We both said sold! Brought it up, hooked up the digital box converter I’d purchased 4 years ago and we get a few measly channels. I don’t have Cable TV as I watch most of my shows online. So now I have a few news channels and I can watch my favorite show nightly, Seinfeld. I know, I know, the show is old but I still love it. I’ve watched every episode a gillion times and I still love the show.

All in all a good winter solstice night indeed.

  1. Sir? What a respectable young man. Goodwill often has TVs like that for $3, half that on certain days.

  2. Ryu – he was a REAL sweetheart. He didn’t have a coat on. I kept telling him to grab a coat as you could tell he was cold. He was in front a few sort of run down trailers. Now I wonder if he was selling whatever he could to get Christmas money. Hard to say. I’m going to drive by there in a couple of days. If he’s really helping out his Momma in any way and they need help, we’re going to do what we can to help them.

  3. OH MY small TV in a sale that is amazing..most people here are hoarding those..reason being..the kids use them. Well if they have a VCR slot even better. I had about 5 or 6 people wanting the one we had when I sold out of our old house. I said NOPE..not for sale. Yes I sure hope you check that kid out because I would say he was probably trying to make extra money. Hope you and HUBBY have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Stay safe and warm..

PS I never could get my converter box to work. Darn thing..wouldn’t pick up much.. we are in a DEAD zone I heard later on. hmmmm
